The Corner is a community-led movement beginning in South Wales. We create welcoming Circles, where people can meet, express themselves, share their talents, promote what they do, earn money, make connections, or simply enjoy being there.

What happens at a Circle?

Every Circle is shaped around the venue, the people who attend and the local community. It could include:

• Local makers and small businesses selling their work
• Musicians, poets, comedians and other performers
• Workshops, talks and demonstrations
• Creative activities and community ideas
• Informal networking and collaboration
• Tea, conversation and quiet company
• Space to sit, listen or simply be

No two Circles need to look the same.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for welcoming venues willing to lend us their space for a pilot Circle.

Together, we would agree on a suitable date, time, capacity and style of Circle. The Circle would always be planned around what is safe, realistic and appropriate for your venue.

Possible spaces could include cafés, pubs, shops, studios, libraries, halls, gardens and other community-minded venues.

Refreshments

Where a venue already sells food or drinks, visitors will be encouraged to support it.

Where refreshments are not normally available, The Corner would like to offer simple tea and coffee free of charge wherever possible. We can bring flasks and basic supplies, and encourage everyone to bring their own mug.

Opportunity is encouraged

People may be invited to:

• Perform
• Sell their crafts, products or artwork
• Promote their business or services
• Lead an activity or share a skill
• Meet potential customers and collaborators
• Volunteer or help shape future Circles

Shameless plugging is actively encouraged.

Nobody will be expected to contribute their time or talents for free. Any sales or paid opportunities would be discussed clearly in advance.

What does the venue receive?

Every venue that supports The Corner will be actively promoted as a Corner partner. This could include:

• Promotion before and after the Circle
• Features across The Corner's online spaces
• Links to the venue's website and social pages
• Photographs, stories and thank-you posts
• Introduction to new visitors and potential customers
• A place in the future Corner community directory
• Opportunities to develop further Circles and collaborations

We cannot promise a particular level of attendance or income, but we can promise to value, credit and promote the spaces that help make The Corner possible.

What would The Corner do?

The Corner would help plan and coordinate the Circle, invite performers, makers and contributors, promote the venue, welcome people as they arrive and help create an atmosphere where everybody belongs.
